After the Rain by Lilian Darcy – 5 Cups
How do you stop being angry at someone when they’re gone?
Kira Shepherd Blair’s older sister Neve died eighteen years ago at River Bend Park, on the night of the 1996 Marietta High School senior prom, and Kira is still mired in feelings she can’t resolve. So much of her life has been shadowed by Neve, from the adolescence she spent banished from the family spotlight because Neve was so greedy for it, to the bad marriage she made at twenty-one because she and her parents needed the security and the promise of a future, after Neve’s tragic death.
Kira is working to make a good life for herself and her ten-year-old son Jake after her divorce and is finally starting to feel that she’s getting on track, when Neve’s high school boyfriend Casey “Jay” Brown comes back to Marietta and turns everything upside down.
Casey has never known in his heart how much he was to blame for what happened to Neve that night, but when he and Kira are forced to work together at the renowned Haraldsen Architectural Foundation in the foothills of the Absaroka Mountains, she leaves him in no doubt as to her opinion on the issue.
That’s how you stop being angry at someone when they’re gone. You channel your anger onto the man you hold responsible, the man who’s right here, no matter how heart-stoppingly gorgeous he is.

Sway with Me by Caitlin Ricci – 4 Cups
Ophelia Nichols is a fresh hire for the EPA, and she’s ready to make her mark on the world. She’s idealistic, driven, and has a suitcase full of her favorite books to keep her company on her first assignment. Alaska wouldn’t have been her first choice of a place to go, but she can’t help but be excited by the adventure she hopes to find there. However, upon arriving to the barren land of ice at the top of the world, she realizes her team isn’t exactly full of what she would call gentlemen, and the guys they warn her about are actually pretty nice.
Then there’s Leonardo McKenna. Working on an oil rig has made him tough, and he likes his isolated life surrounded by his books and his big wolf-dog. He’s got a love for Shakespeare and the classics, and one look from him makes Ophelia realize Alaska may not be as cold as she originally thought. But his life is in Alaska and she works wherever the EPA sends her. A few days here and there might be enough for a friendship, but it’ll take more than letters and a few gifts to have something that lasts.
For Ophelia and Leonardo though, love can exist beyond the distances, and making it work is just one more challenge.

Especially the getting caught standing over a dead body, again, part. Only this time it wasn’t her fault. Just once she’d like it if homicide detective Grant Tompkins didn’t assume she was guilty. To clear her slightly tarnished name, Kim goes after the clever killer while avoiding a certain hot homicide detective determined to put her in handcuffs – and not the pink, fuzzy kind – not that she’d mind. Too bad Kim’s efforts lead to dead ends and even more dead bodies. Kim will need all her skills and a bit of luck to outwit a killer who’d like to put an end to Kim’s meddling permanently.
