A note from the author:
I’ve been a writer half my life now. My parents encouraged me to write and gave me every opportunity to learn. A friend and I created this massive imaginary world with original characters, and I happily played in this world for close to a decade. I also wrote fan fiction off and on for a couple of my favorite book series.
In May of 2009 I got married. Three months later things started falling apart. By September of that year, I felt like I was barely holding myself together. I went to my annual writer’s conference, but the whole thing is a fog. All I remember is the afternoon I spent crying in the hotel room with my mom. And the fact I didn’t want a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Very unusual for me.
By April of 2010 I believed my life to be in danger and I left him, came back home, and haven’t seen him since. My words dried up. I went from someone who wrote every day to someone who couldn’t string a sentence together to save my life.
In March of 2011 my words came back and I finished a historical romance. I pitched it at a conference that fall. But the agents said no, and I stalled out again.
On May 16th, 2012, an alien named A’yen walked through my dreams. When I woke up the next morning, I made notes on what he had told me, opened a new document, and titled it My Name Is A’yen. Eighty-six days later I had a finished novel in a genre I’d never heard of—science fiction romance.
Three years later, I’ve written five novels in the A’yen’s Legacy universe, the third releases this month, the fourth is out in October, and My Name Is A’yen releases in paper on May 16th—what would have been my sixth anniversary.
The day now belongs to A’yen. And he’s a hero who will never break my heart.
