The Indie Author Feature Presents: D.E. Haggerty

Wow this book was a lot of fun to read. The characters are a hoot!! – Diana’s Book Reviews

Will chasing imaginary killers make her miss her chance at love? Today on the Indie Author Feature with Coffee Time Romance and More, I’m pleased to welcome D.E. Haggerty, author of Murder, Mystery & Dating Mayhem.

A Note from the Author:

author photoMy beta readers were divided about Murder, Mystery & Dating Mayhem. One group thought I wasn’t taking my writing serious by penning a humorous chick lit novel while the other half thought it was tons of fun. I was a bit surprised that anyone would find a fun romantic comedy read problematic, but then I remembered my own youth. I too had been a reading snob.

Just after my release from the Army, my hubby and I attended a family reunion. One quick visit to my parents and then we’d be heading to Ohio and law school, the dream that had kept me going for five long years as a military policewomen. To my utter shock, I caught my older sister reading People magazine. I. Could. Not. Believe. My. Eyes. My big sister, who had gotten her MBA while working a full-time management position, was reading filth, fluff, junk.

Of course I couldn’t keep my big mouth shut. I accosted her lame reading choice immediately. Oh yes, I was pretentious as all get out that summer after being freed from my military obligations before beginning law school. It took me several years of working 60 plus hours a week to finally get it. Sometimes you just need a bit of fluff to chill out. I love to read, but even recreational reading can be arduous after weeks of negotiating stacks of contracts. What can be better at that moment than a book that’s easy to read, makes you laugh, and takes you away from your daily life?

While humorous chick lit novels may not save the world, there is something to be said for a book that can relieve a reader’s stress for a few hours. I had an absolute ball writing Murder, Mystery & Dating Mayhem. And that is just what the doctor ordered.

My name is Izzy. I drink too much, am clumsier than a newborn foal, and my brain-to-mouth filter often malfunctions. My daredevil husband killed himself in a parachuting accident five years ago and my best friend Jack has decided it’s time I jump back in the dating pool. He’s perfectly happy to throw me in if I don’t listen. Just when things in the dating world start to heat up, my grandma dies. Only her knitting group of Jessica Fletcher wannabes is sure it’s murder. I’m not convinced but I’m always up for a bit of excitement as long as it doesn’t lead to a night in jail. Well, more than one night anyway. Will I miss my chance at love because I’m chasing imaginary killers? Did someone really kill grandma or am I and my merry band of geriatric thieves imagining things?
